Federal Scholarship Tax Credit (2027)

Florida opted in to the new federal scholarship tax credit program on January 28, 2026. Beginning in 2027, donors receive a dollar-for-dollar federal credit for gifts to approved scholarship organizations, and Florida families receive the scholarships.

Created in the 2025 federal reconciliation law, the program lets individual taxpayers redirect up to $1,700 of federal tax to a scholarship-granting organization and receive a full credit. States must opt in; Governor DeSantis announced Florida's participation during National School Choice Week 2026.

Step Up For Students will administer Florida's share through a new affiliate, the Step Up, Step Further Scholarship Fund. Details on award size and the application are expected ahead of the January 1, 2027 start.

For Miami-Dade families this is a second layer on top of the state scholarship — useful where a school's tuition exceeds the $8,745 state award. We will publish the application process the day it opens.
