Private schools for unique abilities in Miami-Dade — and the scholarship that pays for them

Dozens of Miami-Dade private schools report to the state that they serve autism, specific learning disabilities, speech-language impairment and other diagnoses. The Unique Abilities Scholarship averages about $10,000.

Which diagnoses qualify

Autism spectrum disorder, specific learning disability, intellectual disability, speech or language impairment, other health impairment (ADHD), emotional/behavioral disability, hearing or vision impairment, developmental delay (ages 3-5), and others listed in Florida statute.

Matching a school to a diagnosis

Each school page lists the disability categories the school reports serving to the Florida DOE. Use the Unique Abilities section to browse.

FES-UA vs. the standard scholarship

A student can hold one or the other. FES-UA is larger and more flexible — it pays therapists and tutors directly — but requires documentation and an annual learning plan.

Deadline

New FES-UA applications for 2026-27 are open through November 15, 2026.
