Specialized summer and after-school education programs are covered; overnight or day educational camps need pre-authorization, and non-specialized camps need a therapist's or doctor's letter. Lodging and food are never covered.
Educational camps with documented educational benefit; sports camps go under Sports Lessons without credentials.
Before- and after-school care is a prohibited school fee.
Rules that apply
- Published fees must be provided to the SFO before funding; proof of attendance is required.
- For students 16 and up, full- or half-day education programs are permitted with pre-authorization.
What is not allowed
- Camp lodging and meals
- Before/after-school care
In Miami-Dade
Church-run summer academic programs in Hialeah and Homestead increasingly structure themselves as 'specialized education programs' with published fee schedules so FES-UA families can use them.
How to buy it
Check MyScholarShop first (anything listed is pre-approved), then Find Providers in EMA for direct pay to tutors, therapists and instructors. Otherwise pay with a card, keep the itemized receipt and submit for reimbursement. Anything not listed as eligible needs a pre-authorization request before you buy; 2026-27 requests close May 28, 2027.
